1. Overview
SnapGrid is a macOS application designed to improve your productivity by organizing windows using flexible grid-based layouts.
It allows you to split your screen into multiple zones and snap application windows into place using drag & drop.
SnapGrid is optimized for:
- Standard and ultrawide displays
- Multi-monitor setups
- Fast, distraction-free workflows
2. Layouts & Dashboards
SnapGrid uses layouts (dashboards) to define how your screen is divided.

Available Layout Types
Predefined Layouts
Ready-to-use layouts:
- Full Screen
- Vertical Half
- Horizontal Half
- 2x2 Grid
- 3x2 Grid
- 4 Columns
- Left Main / Right Main
Personalized Layouts
- Create custom layouts
- Rename or delete layouts
- Layouts are saved per display
3. Layout Editor (Custom Layouts)
The Layout Editor allows you to build advanced custom layouts.

Features
Split Zones
Right-click a zone to:
- Add Vertical Split
- Add Horizontal Split
Remove Zones
- Remove any section from the layout
Flip Layout
- Flip horizontally
- Flip vertically
Resize
- Drag dividers to adjust zone sizes
Save Layout
- Click “Save Layout”
- Enter a name
- Layout becomes available under Personalized Layouts
4. Snap & Window Management
Once a layout is active:
- Drag a window
- Move it over a grid zone
- SnapGrid automatically positions and resizes it
Behavior:
- Automatic resizing
- Precise alignment
- Works with all standard macOS apps
5. Multi-Screen Support
- SnapGrid detects each display independently
- Assign different layouts per monitor
- Layouts are tied to each screen (e.g. LG Ultrawide vs Retina)
6. Menu Bar Access

SnapGrid runs from the macOS menu bar and provides quick access to:
- Layouts… - select layout
- Editor… - edit layout
- Settings… - configure behavior
- Help
- About SnapGrid
- Quit
Keyboard shortcuts are available (e.g. Cmd+S, Cmd+E)
7. Settings

Snap Behavior
Snap area scale
- Controls how much space snapped windows occupy
- Example: 68% -> leaves margins around windows
Always fill split area
- ON -> window fills the entire zone
- OFF -> window remains centered and scaled
App Settings
Launch at login
- Automatically start SnapGrid when you log in
Reset to defaults
- Restore all settings and layouts to default

9. Troubleshooting
Windows do not snap
- Check macOS Accessibility permissions
Layout not appearing
- Verify the correct display is selected
